The 1969 New York Jets were a team for the ages. They finished the regular season with an 11-3 record and beat the Raiders 27-23 in the AFL Championship game. The Jets went into Super Bowl III with a number of offensive weapons to go along with Joe Namath including fellow Hall of Famer Don Maynard, George Sauer, Matt Snell, and Emerson Boozer. Despite being 18-point underdogs to the NFL champion Colts, the Jets had the utmost confidence, especially Namath who boldly predicted “We’re gonna win the game. I guarantee it.” The Jets went on to win Super Bowl III 16-7; it was the first victory for the AFL.
